Coaching Designations
For the 2019-20 season, Cleveland Basketball (CB) head coaches will be selected on the following basis:
Winter Season
Grades 3-5 will be parent/guardian volunteer coaches for all teams.
Note: If we don't have volunteers for REC, we will no longer be able to offer this option to our community. Your help is truly appreciated & impactful on kids who love the game of basketball & enjoy playing year-round.
Fall & Spring Seasons
Grades 3-8 will be parent/guardian volunteer coaches for all teams.
Note: At times, we may be able to provide coaches from our staff if they are available. However, if we don't have parent volunteers, there is no guarantee we would be able to offer teams during the off-seasons. Thank you for your help!
All Seasons
Grades 5-8 will be paid, non-family member coaches for all teams. Our Warrior Prep coaching staff are year-round coaches employed by our program, and are committed specifically to our competitive basketball community for the next few years! A couple of the coaches are also employed as the Varsity boys coaches at CHS!
Summer Season
Frosh, JV, & Varsity will have paid coaches for all teams. (We try to hire the coaches from CHS to fill these roles if they are available.)
Fall & Spring Seasons
Frosh & JV have traditionally been coached by Varsity players and have parent/guardian supervision.
Varsity has always been self-coached, with parent/guardian supervision, per tradition.
Beginning in the 2020-21 season, Coach Jaz will be available to take on Fall & Spring season coaching/supervision to provide structure & guidance to high school athletes during these times.
Why has self-coaching been tradition in the past?
All High School Coaches in the state of Oregon are in a “dead-period” designated by the OSAA during the Fall & Spring. This means they are not allowed to coach any of their own high school kids in games at this time, and are limited to just skill work, open gyms, and strength & conditioning. For many years, Cleveland ATHLETES & FAMILIES have always stepped-up & helped facilitate Fall teams within our organization, providing the athletes a place to play while gearing up for Winter. Spring will be the same going forward so that players can get in a few game situations together before Summer team tryouts at CHS.
